Fundraising Story

Imagine a mother carrying her baby for nine months, full of hope and love. When the time finally comes to give birth, she rushes to the nearest health centre, only to find there is no bed, no proper equipment, and no safe space to deliver her child. This is painful, and sadly, it is the reality for many mothers in Buvuma Island. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful team called Tokens of Life Uganda. They are organising the 3rd Buvuma Charity Marathon on Buvuma Island. Buvuma is made up of 56 islands, and many of these areas are hard to reach. One of the biggest challenges there is access to good healthcare, especially for mothers. This year, the marathon is focused on maternal health, because many women do not have the facilities they need for safe delivery. The available health centres are few and lack enough equipment to serve the growing population. From the 28th to the 30th, I will be taking on a personal challenge to run alongside this team and the people of Buvuma, raising funds to create a safe delivery space at Busamuzi Health Centre. I am doing this not just for myself, but to support a cause that truly matters. Every mother deserves a safe place to give birth, and every child deserves a healthy start in life.
